The stones are natural materials and so they can't have uniformity in the colours. They are characterized by a variety of the colours, also in every supply, and this is exactly their beauty. So the photos which are published in this web site are to consider just indicative.
The works showed in this web site are made with materials supplied by our Company and are not setting created with the PC.

Broken natural stones with variable thickness.

The broken natural stones feature many shades of colours, varying thickness of each piece and more or less smooth surface. In order to obtain the best natural effect and to enhance these characteristics, we suggest you, when laying, to take out from the packaging each individual tiles and/or irregular piece, and to distribute them by mixing the different shades of stones. Moreover, the layer must always get the walking surface by using the smoother face of the stone tile.
The quartzite and the others ornamental stones, having non-calibrated thickness, usually are laid with the traditional mortar method.
The subgrade has to be dry, smooth, levelled, consisting of mortar of cement and dry sand, and attention has to be paid to the space required for both mortar and stone. We advise you to spread a layer of non-soft mortar, where there will be laid the single pieces of stone, previously grouted on the back with almost liquid cement. Use mixtures that stick well, withstand low and hight temperature, and that are waterproof. You should not insist too much in beating the pieces, in order to avoid that a layer of water is created under the stone, which could impair its adhesion.

Suggested mixtures:
· 250 Kg. of white cement - 50 Kg. of hydraulic lime - 1 cu.m of fine sand
· 150 Kg. of white cement - 150 Kg. of hydraulic lime - 1 cu.m of fine sand
· 300 Kg. of white cement - 1 cu.m of fine sand

During the laying, it’s very important keeping always clean the stone surface in order to avoid the drying process of some residual deposit on the stone surface. To this purpose, we suggest to use a claen sponge wetted with water; the cleanness of the junction, has to be obtained with the smallest possible quantity of water, to not empty the same.

As an option, you could lay the stones using a specific sizing agent for natural stones.
In this case, the “expansion gaps” have to be puttied with specific plasters for stone, by taking care for carefully cleaning off any possible smudges, before they anchor to the natural vein of the stone.

In order to protect a flooring from any stains of oil, grease or other kind of marks, we suggest you to treat it with an oil/water-resistant product which has to be applied after the laying and plastering process, and mainly after completely drying (at least 20/30 days) and cleaning of the floor. This product will make also the cleaning easier as it renders the flooring waterproof. The application of such products has to be carried out by following the instructions printed on the product labels.
In order to protect covering and floors from any stains of oil, grease or other kind of marks, we suggest you to threat them with the products of the company FILA S.p.a. www.filachim.com

Broken natural stones with calibrated thickness

The natural stones with calibrated thickness facilitate a lot the laying steps and reduce the need for thickness depth between the subgrade and the finished level.
They can be laid by using a specific sizing agent for natural stones and/or slates or applying the traditional method with mortar (please refer to the technical instruction on the previous page).

Also in this case, to obtain the best chromatic effect of the assembly, we suggest you, when laying, to take out from the packaging each tile individually and to distribute them by mixing the different shades of stone in order to enhance their features and the smartness of the natural appearance of colours.

Note that, even when laying, the stone surface has always to be kept clean and neat in order to avoid the drying of some residual deposits of size, mortar or plaster on the natural surface of the stone. The “expansion gap”suggested for the tiles is at least 3 mm and it can be realized by using some standard spacer crosses.

WASHING AFTER LAYING
After laying is complete, the floor must be washed thoroughly to remove all laying residues, such as grout, adhesive, etc... For this purpose Fila recommends FilaCleaner neutral detergent diluted 1:20. Avoid using acids. Even if diluted, acids tend to corrode the surface.

NATURAL FINISH STAIN PROTECTION
Spread a coat of FilaW68 over a clean and dry floor. Apply a second coat 4 hours after the first. Wait 4 hours, then apply a coat of FilaMatt finishing wax (matt finish) or FilaSatin (satiny finish).
